Online first aid courses

Tanzania regulates workplace first aid through the Occupational Health and Safety Act, No. 5 of 2003 and the Occupational Safety and Health (First Aid and Welfare Facilities) Rules, 2015 (GN No. 147 of 2015), enforced by OSHA: a workplace of 10 to 50 employees needs at least one first-aid box and two trained first-aiders, scaling up with headcount. First-aiders complete an Industrial First Aid course (1 to 3 days) and certification is valid 3 years, with online training accepted.

Tanzania's National Guidelines for the Establishment and Management of Day Care Centres (2020), with the Day Care Centres and Crèches Regulations (2012) and the Law of the Child Act (2009), require at least one first-aid-trained staff member on duty at all times and expect every caregiver to know how to use the first-aid kit. It is overseen by the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children and the Commissioner for Social Welfare, and online courses are accepted.

Tanzania has no dedicated Good Samaritan Act and no general duty to rescue; as a common-law jurisdiction, the Penal Code (Cap. 16), ss. 206-210 imposes only narrow relationship- or charge-based duties. The Road Traffic Act, 1973, s. 57 requires a driver involved in an accident to stop, give particulars and report it, and the WHO (2023) confirms Tanzania has no Good Samaritan law.

In Tanzania, nurses and midwives regulated by the Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC) must earn 30 CPD points over three years to renew their practising licence, tracked through the TNMCIS platform. Accredited resuscitation/BLS training (CPR/AED, ACLS, PALS among eligible activities) from a recognized provider can count toward these points.

In Tanzania, care for older and vulnerable adults is provided largely through home-based care, community caregiving programmes and private caregiving, with first aid and CPR typically embedded in VETA and private-institute caregiver training rather than fixed by a single national residential-care standard. A recognized, up-to-date first-aid and CPR certificate is a common way to meet this expectation, in addition to occupational training and renewed periodically.

In Tanzania, foster care is governed by the Law of the Child Act (Cap 13) and the Foster Care Placement Regulations of 2012, under which a person over 21 of high moral character is approved as a 'fit person' by a social welfare officer. First aid is not a stand-alone rule, but a current first-aid and CPR certificate from a recognized organization is commonly expected, in addition to the suitability assessment and never a substitute for approval.

Online CPR and first aid training is recognized in Tanzania: the Rules require trained first-aiders but do not prescribe the delivery mode, so online theory combined with a practical assessment is accepted. Certification is valid for 3 years.
